How To Fix A Leak Under The Sink

The two main causes of leaks under the sink are bad connections, and damaged piping. Be sure to turn off the water supply before attempting to repair a leak. Check the connections on the supply hoses, the P-trap, and the sink drain to make sure that they are tight and properly threaded. If they look crooked or don’t turn easily, they need to be rethreaded.

Carefully unscrew the connection and clean the threads with a soft wire brush. Use plumber’s tape to wrap a thin layer around the outer threads. Carefully reconnect the plumbing, making sure that the threads are straight. Then turn the water source back on and check for leaks. If there is still a leak, check the plumbing and gaskets for signs of corrosion or damage, and replace parts as necessary. Some drain fixtures require the use of plumber’s putty to seal the drain, while others use a large gasket. Check the gasket for damage and replace if needed, or use plumber’s putty to seal the drain.

How to Keep Pipes from Sweating

Sweating water pipes can be annoying, especially when they cause water to drip and pool. Water pipes sweat when moisture in the air condenses (or collects) on the outer surface of a cold pipe. High moisture levels in the air make pipe condensation more likely. One solution can be as simple as using a dehumidifier in the room. Another easy fix is to wrap the pipes with waterproof foam insulation. To do this, first make sure that the pipes are clean and dry. Use the foam insulation to cover the pipes and wrap the seam of the insulation with duct tape to seal it.

How to Replace the Handle on a Toilet

Replacing the flush handle, also known as a toilet trip lever, can be an easy and affordable home improvement. The flushing handle is connected to a chain inside the tank that controls the flapper. Before removing the flush handle, take note of what link is connected to the lever arm (this will come in handy when attaching the new handle). Disconnect the chain from the lever and unscrew the nut that holds the lever tight to the tank to remove the old handle. Attach the new handle to the tank, tighten the nut, and reattach the chain to the lever arm.
